The Cavs took all three points in this end to end encounter, despite a below par performance.  With the game in doubt because of the weather it was switched to the excellent CSE Ystrad Mynach 3G facility, and it seemed to suit both sides in what was an end to end encounter.
Cilfynydd started the brighter of the two teams and their quick attacking football caused Nelson some early problems.  Whilst Cil lacked the killer final ball, the Cavs were sloppy in possession and seemed to be over hitting every pass.  Cil continued with their quick attacking and the game become end to end with the Cavs settling into the game, after a few half chances for both teams Lewis Lawford rattled the bar.  With 5 minutes left of the half a quick attack from Nelson saw Matthew Greenaway and Ryan Donovan combine well down the right, and Donovan’s dangerous crossed was well volleyed home by Ceri Clingo.
1-0 HT.
Cil again started the brighter of the two, and it wasn’t long before they got a deserved equaliser when a dangerous cross was well headed home by their unmarked player.  A great cross and finish, but poor marking from the Nelson defence.
The game continued to be end to end, although no real chances of note until Matthew Farr saved well in a 1 on 1 and the Cil keeper made an excellent save from Clingo’s long range effort that looked destined for the top corner.
Liam Dellana made an excellent last ditch tackle after some confusion from a corner to keep the scores level.
Just as the visitors looked the stronger of the two teams when with 10 minutes left on the clock Dan Lewis’ volley looped over the Cil keeper to give Nelson, perhaps an undeserved lead.  From hear on in the Cavs saw out the game really well, with Hari Davies, James Radusin and Dellana all going close to extended the lead.
A below par performance but what is important is getting the three points, and credit to the players who managed to do that despite not being at their best.
A draw probably would have been a fair result against a Cilfynydd team who are much better than their early league position shows.
Man of the Match goes to James Radusin for another all action display in the middle of the park, winning a lot of aerial ball and getting the ball back quickly for his team.
