The Cavs picked up a hard earned three points with a win over a resilient Trecenydd outfit at the CSE Ystrad Mynach.
The game started brightly, both teams looking to get early attacks on but after the opening 10 minutes it was Nelson who were seeing more possession. Trecenydd were frustrating Nelson with a deep defensive line and men behind the ball, this lead to Nelson trying to force final balls and being quite wasteful in possession. Anytime the defensive line was broken, the Cavs failed to create many clear cut chances other than forcing a number of corners. Ceri Clingo almost gave his side the lead a good run was stopped by the home keeper who saved well from a powerful shot. It wasn’t all Nelson though, as well as their defensive efforts Trecenydd were very quick and dangerous on the counter attack, causing Nelson a number of problems with a header just over and a dangerous cross that required a brave save from Matthew Farr in the Nelson goal.
The half continued with neither side testing each other’s keeper and the whistle went at 0-0.
Trecenydd came flying out of the blocks and should have taken a lead within the first minute of the second half, a defensive lapse saw their striker with an easy finish only for him to fire wide. This seemed to wake the Cavs up and they slowly began to take control of the game, a number of half chances were created with James Radusin and Ryan Donovan both going close. The final ball was lacking to create a cut throat chance until Liam Dellana who was introduced at half-time took the ball past a Trecenydd and fired into the bottom corner to give his side the lead. The Cavs were now more or less in full control, however Trecenydd missed another good chance after a quick break their striker went through and fired wide when 1 on 1 with Farr.
More half chances came before Dellana doubles his tally for the day and his sides lead, Chris Edwards through ball bounced into the box and the young striker made no mistake firing home on the half volley.
Nelson were now in total control, waives of attacks came with the killer final ball the only thing lacking, Treceyndd were still quick on the break however no more clear cut chances were created.
Matthew Greenaway rounded off the scoring after some neat build up play he rifled home a half volley from a dangerous cross.
