The Cavs came back from a lacklustre first half to dominate the second half in an entertaining game at home to Church Village.
Village started much the brighter of the teams, competing for every loose ball and looking to play it forward quickly when they won it back. They looked a threat when going forward, Nelson however looked lacklustre, were not competing for the loose ball as well as their visitors and were wasteful in possession.
Village got a deserved lead when a corner missed everyone and went in, a possible foul on Stockdale in the Cavs goal but the goal stood. It wasn’t long before the visitors doubled their lead, a well worked move saw their striker fire home a great strike from 25 yards. A deserved lead and whilst Nelson were not awful, they were far from at their best and Church Village were more than deserving of their lead!
Half Time 0-2
The second half was a different story Nelson as came flying out of the blocks and looked far hungrier than in the first half. After a few attacks the Cavs got a goal back from the returning Dan Falconer, a half time sub after a few months out through injury.
After a good passage of play Falconer latched onto Matthew Greenaway’s through ball to fire home. Nelson were now on top but Village were still in the game. Nelson soon got an equaliser with a role reversal another good passage of play was finished by Greenaway after Falconer’s through ball. As it looked like the comeback was well and truly started, Village scored to re-take the lead with a really well taken volley.
This further spurred on the Cavs who dominated from this point on, Falconer adding another well taken goal to equalise before Dan Lewis finished a good footballing move by curling it around the keeper.
At 4-3 Village started to come back into the game but the Cavs were determined not to give up the lead and defended well as a team, before Ryan Donovan secured all three points with a well taken volley.
Full Time 5-3
MOM goes to Dan Falconer on a fantastic 45 minute display on his return from injury, two goals, an assist and a dominant midfield performance rallied the Cavs from 2-0 down to take all three points.
